Sol-Gel-Dip Coating - the technology

Technik1

Optical coating

We have been developing and producing optical coatings on glass using a wet-chemical coating procedure (Sol-Gel Dip Coating Process). This procedure is ideal for an efficient coating of large flat or slightly curved surfaces and tubes.

Specification of filters

All interference filters produced by Berliner Glas are coated by dipping process. The metal-alcoholic coating solutions used in this process are transformed into firmly adhesive metallic oxide coatings during a thermic process at 480° C. This is essential for a good stability, which shows by durability and unproblematic processing of the filters.

Stability of coating

Solubility, resistant to water, weak leaches and acids, alcohol and alcoholic solvents, glass cleaner
Temperature stability Temperature stability depends on the substrate
  • Borofloat 60° to 450°C
  • Glass ceramic 60° to 650°C

When frequently used at temperatures higher than 550ºC, some filter models can get clouding of layer.
Non-abrasiveness according to MIL-C 48497, moderate conditions, only modest stability against abrasive agents, e.g. bathroom cleaner with polish
Adhesive stability according to MIL-C 48497 (scotch tape test)
Damp-proof according to MIL-C 48497, 50ºC, 95 % rel. dampness, 24 hours

Coating defects

According to DIN 3140, part 10 50/10 x 1,0 referring to a surface of 100 x 100 mm
flaws < 0,25 mm are ignored
